San Angelo Comic Con staff announced on opening day that, due to high demand for a separate gathering for specifically anime, Anime San Angelo will be branching off from Comic Con for its inaugural event on Nov. 8-10.

Promoter and owner of the new event, Scott Smith stated, “I know San Angelo has a huge amount of anime fans. I’ve heard this infinitum. Everybody tells me everybody loves anime here. You’ve never had an anime show, have you? You’ve never had an anime show in this town. You do now. Anime San Angelo starts this November. We will have an actual anime show in San Angelo with all events, all side events, everything you can imagine. … When this is all set up and everything gets settled in, you guys no longer have to settle for Comic Con to celebrate nerdom. We get to do it in style, twice a year.”

The annual San Angelo Comic Con, held this year from Jan. 26-28, is a convention where fans can come together and interact with each other, as well as potentially meet with industry professionals. It initially was for comics, but later broadened to include more forms of entertainment and media such as movies, shows, gaming and animation.
